As was recently reported, Samsung has about 99% of the OLED market right now, but that doesn’t mean that they are allowing their competitors to get the latest and greatest OLED displays. They save those for their own smartphones, like the newly announced Galaxy Note 7. Every time that Samsung announces a new smartphone, the folks over at Display Mate go to work at testing the display to see how it stacks up to the previous generation and the competition as well. And it seems that every time, Display Mate claims that Samsung has made the best display for a smartphone. This time around, the Galaxy Note 7’s display has outperformed the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S7’s display.
Here’s what Display Mate had to say about the Galaxy Note 7’s display, “the Galaxy Note 7 provides many major and important state-of-the-art display enhancements, with mobile OLED display technology now advancing faster than ever.” They also noted that the Galaxy Note 7’s display is the “most innovative and high performance smartphone display that [they] have ever tested.” They also mentioned that Samsung has enhanced the performance functions and features of this display by using 4 color gamuts and screen modes, a new wide DCI-P3 color gamut and digital cinema mode, among other things. This digital cinema mode is actually used on 4K Ultra HD TV’s, so while the Galaxy Note 7’s display is not a 4K display, it can display 4K video content with ease. Samsung also has a “record high peak brightness” which hits over 1,000 nits. Meaning that the Galaxy Note 7’s display should definitely be visible when outdoors and in direct sunlight.
The fact that the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 has the best display on a smartphone, ever, shouldn’t be a huge surprise. It’s something that Samsung has been known for in recent years, and they just keep getting better. It’s another feather in the cap of the Galaxy Note 7, which is proving to offer the best in just about every category right now. While some aspects like the camera and battery life, have yet to be tested, it’s likely that they will outperform or be on par with the Galaxy S7 too – even though the camera is the exact same camera and the battery is smaller.
