Sharp is a Japan-based company most of you have probably heard of by now. This company has been around for quite some time, and they’ve manufactured all sorts of tech products. Sharp has been involved in various tech sectors, but they’re best known for their displays, mostly ones they manufacture for smartphones. If you’ve seen the ‘IGZO’ technology somewhere, then you know those are Sharp’s IGZO displays. That being said, Foxconn was given a green light to purchase Sharp a couple of days ago, and it will be interesting to see where will that move take the company.
As we’re waiting to see what happens after Foxconn’s acquisition, another Sharp-branded smartphone surfaced. Sharp actually manufactured some really interesting, bezel-less devices in the past, like the Aquos Crystal and Aquos Xx, which managed to attract consumers’ attention, but the two devices were, unfortunately, not widely available, and the company did not manage to hype them up as they should. This resulted in not so great sales numbers, despite the design of such smartphones. In any case, if you take a look at the images in the gallery down below, you’ll get to see the design of the alleged Sharp M1 smartphone. The phone is shown off in White and Pink color variants, and it resembles the Xiaomi Mi 5 quite a bit. The general shape of the device is quite similar to the Mi 5, even though this phone does not sport a front-facing physical home key, and the back side is also incredibly similar, even the curves on the side a reminiscent of the Xiaomi Mi 5.
If these images are to be believed, the device will sport three capacitive buttons below the display, back, home and overview (multitasking), respectively. Its side bezels will be really, really thin, and the phone will sport physical keys on both its right and left sides. The power / lock physical key will be placed on the right-hand side of the Sharp M1, while the volume rocker keys are located on the phone’s left side, as you can see in one of the renders. As far as specs go, the Sharp M1 is said to sport a 5.5-inch fullHD display, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of native storage. MediaTek’s MT6753 64-bit octa-core SoC running at 1.3GHz will fuel this smartphone, while you’ll be able to find a 13-megapixel sensor both on the phone’s back and front side (front-facing sensor will sport a wide angle lens). The 2,600mAh battery has also been mentioned, and same can be said for 64GB of internal storage. Android 6.0 Marshmallow will come pre-installed on the phone, and you can also expect 4G LTE connectivity with FDD and TDD support to be included in the Sharp M1 package. This handset is referred to as ‘Sharp M1’ in latest leaks, not ‘Sharp Aquos M1’, though it might carry the ‘Aquos’ branding one Sharp introduces it, we’ll see.
