10 Tac Toe is an Android and iOS game based on Tic-Tac Toe, but it’s a game that plays unlike any other Tic-Tac Toe game out there. Instead of simply playing on a 3×3 square grid, 10 Tac Toe takes things to a whole new level, and includes a big wheel which users need to roll, this determines where they can put their counters, further spicing things up. Perhaps the most intriguing thing in 10 Tac Toe however, is the Capture Mode, where players can – when they roll on the same as something else, replace their opponent’s counter with one of their own, thus capturing the spot for themselves. With offline and online options, as well as the ability to play with up to two other friends locally, this is a game that practically reinvents Tic-Tac Toe for the modern generation.
Just as with other games on Android, 10 Tac Toe is available to download from the Play Store, it’s also available from the iTunes store for iOS devices. Unlike a lot of them however, this isn’t a free game, but as always paying for a game means that there are no ads or in-app purchases to deal with.
Thankfully, the instructions are front and center for new players that have never played the game before, and they do a pretty decent job of explaining what 10 Tac Toe is all about, too.
When players start a game, they’re given a number of different options, but the main one is whether or not they want to play online. This does put them against other players online, which quickly turns this into one of the few multiplayer Tic-Tac Toe games that would actually be competitive.
On top of this, there are a number of different game modes to choose from as well, many of which will be a little foreign to new players, but as we’ve said, these game modes are covered in the instructions quite nicely.
For me, I found that the capture game mode was the more exciting of the two, and offered players more of a challenge. Either way, the game takes some getting used to, and it’s the sort of thing that some might find a little strange, but it’s certainly refreshing to get a different take on such a classic game like Tic-Tac Toe.
10 Tac Toe’s Capture Mode is practically where a lot of the fun is, especially when playing either online or IRL with other people around you. This is the sort of game mode that’s both competitive as well as controlled by luck a little bit, which is something that we all loved about Tic-Tac Toe, that element of chance.
There’s always a winner at the end of proceedings, and in the simple mode, this is achieved by matching three of the same color, and in capture mode, players need to keep on capturing each other’s counters in order to win. The aim is to reduce your opponents to just two tokens in play. Whenever a player gets three connected tokens, they can then capture other tokens out there.
Meanwhile, the Simple Mode isn’t quite as exciting, and only really sees players trying their luck in order to get some good rolls and to keep on placing counters where they’re best placed in order to win.
After spending some time playing 10 Tac Toe, I can certainly see what the developer was going for here, they were trying their best to create something that took the magic of Tic-Tac Toe and then bring it into the 21st Century. For the most part, they’ve succeeded in that endeavor, this is a game that feels a hell of a lot more modern in both its styling as well as its approach. It’s simple, yet addictive and has a lot going for it all at the same time, including competitive online play as well as a good variety of game modes. It does however, feel a little basic for the price that it’s asking for, but this could all change in future updates, and paying for a game does help further the experience as there are no pesky ads that can in the way of things. It’s the sort of game that a lot of people will really enjoy, perhaps more so if they’ve been wondering when they can play Tic-Tac Toe again in an exciting and fresh manner.

- Speed (4/5) – 10 Tac Toe runs well, and the pacing is up to the players that are currently locking heads with each other, just like a good Tic-Tac Toe game, this is lightweight and doesn’t get in the way of the pacing.
- Theme (3.5/5) – While some players won’t be bothered by the lack of visual flare here, there will be a lot more out there that will have been left wanting more from the overall look and feel of 10 Tac Toe, as it’s not exactly the best-looking Tic-Tac Toe game out there.
- Features (4/5) – Being a fun game has always been the key factor of any Tic-Tac Toe game, and 10 Tac Toe is no different, offering players a quality experience that many will feel is a much-needed upgrade to the ageing game.
- Overall (4/5) – It might be all that good-looking, but it’s the sort of classic game that will appeal to players of all ages, including families and the gameplay is solid, while also offering Tic-Tac Toe players something new to get used to and get familiar with.

- Gives new players, regardless of any experience with Tic-Tac Toe, a great introduction as to how to play the game.
- Simple control system will make this a game that can be played by everyone, regardless of their age or previous experience.
- Capture Mode turns Tic-Tac Toe is something a lot more competitive and a lot more complex, and thanks to the multiplayer aspect, 10 Tac Toe brings this game to the masses both online and off.
- Simple Mode will allow new players to get used to the game, as well as give oldschool fans of Tic-Tac Toe a new way to play the game they love.
Cons
- Could be considered a little on the expensive side given the lack of visual flare and such.
- While the online side of things does work, there doesn’t seem to be much in the way of action happening online.
All-in-all, 10 Tac Toe is the sort of game that will appeal to casual gamers as well as those that have been looking forward to an update to the classical Tic-Tac Toe formula for far too many years. It doesn’t ask too much of its players, and it’s easy to get into, while also offering some competitive elements to it. A great game for the family, and one that brings a classic game right up-to-date, 10 Tac Toe is certainly worth looking into.
