Spotify Focuses On Kids More With Redesigned Category

Spotify has just recently redesigned its Kids & Family category to help kids with learning at an early age. While the Kids category itself is not new, Spotify’s tweaks mean they take more a focused approach to parents and their children, with a mixture of songs fitting for the playlist as well as activities that both the parents and the kids can engage in. Playlists such as Dance Party, for example, contains a large collective of upbeat songs like Happy by Pharrell Williams and Can’t Stop This Feeling by Justin Timberlake,  as well as appropriate brain-building activities.

In addition to options like Dance Party, the Kids & Family category also contains options for Playtime, Bathtime, Family Road Trips, Folk For Kids, and many others like “Kindie” which is a collective of indie-focused kids music. Spotify plans to expand their already decent-sized offering of Kids & Family playlists, and has stated that they will be working with companies such as Univision, The GRAMMY Museum, Save The Music, Fatherly and others to deliver more content for kids and parents. While the playlist will be filled with themed songs, it will also include celebrity tips that are aimed at suggesting various other activities which can be completed by kids and their parents.

According to the report, the tips will come from celebrities like Tyler Perry, Sarah Michele Gellar, Diego Torres and more, and could be suggestions that kids and parents sing along to a particular song but make up the words, or to move around and dance along with a particular track. Spotify offers these new playlists in English and Spanish so users will have the opportunity to bring them up in whatever language suits them best. In addition to the updated Kids & Family category, Spotify also recently added a new piece of content which subscribers can access – a series of animated videos that attempt to describe the history of a particular type of music. Spotify also recently added a new feature called Release Radar. What Release Radar does is deliver personalized playlists based on what the subscriber is currently listening to and based on recently released music from artists at the time.
