The debate on whether to pick an Android powered device, or to go for an iPhone based on reliability is an ongoing one. Well it seems like Blancco Technology Group has come up with an answer for that. According to the company, Android devices are less likely to fail compared to Apple devices. This happens to be the first time for Apple devices to have experienced a higher failure rate than smartphones running on Android. In the previous study, Apple experienced a 25% failure rate while Android experienced a 44% rate of failure.
The study entitled the State of Mobile Device Performance and Health for the second quarter of 2016, revealed that Apple devices had a pretty high failure rate of 58%. Leading the pack of Apple devices in terms of failure is the iPhone 6 with a failure rate of 29%, in second place is the iPhone 6S with a failure rate of 23% and behind it is the iPhone 6S Plus with 14%. As for Android manufacturers, South Korean electronics giant Samsung came out with the lowest performance and was followed by Lenovo and LeTV. Samsung scored a failure rate of 26% while Motorola scored a much better failure rate of 11%. However, the overall Android failure rate was much lower compared to Apple’s, coming in at only 35%. This represents a significance improvement over the 44% which Android scored in the last quarter.
An interesting fact which the study revealed is that Apple devices fail more frequently in North America and Asia compared to Android. In North America, the rate of failure is 59%, while in Asia, it is 52%. The primary culprits which influence failure in Apple devices are crashing apps at 65%, unable to connect to WiFi at 11% and problems with the headset at 4%. Android on the other hand, faced issues with the camera, app crashes, random reboots, syncing problems and battery charging issues. When it comes to apps, Apple experienced 50% of application crashes, compared to 23% of Android apps. The top apps to crash on Apple devices were Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat. Meanwhile apps that crashed the most on Android include Google Play Services, Google Contacts Sync and Address Book crashed the most frequent.
