Tizen-Powered Samsung Z2 Gets Introduced In India

Tizen is, as many of you know, Samsung’s very own operating system. The most popular Tizen-powered device is quite probably Samsung’s Gear S2 smartwatch which was introduced last year. This smartwatch arrived in both regular and ‘Classic’ variants, and its successor is due to arrive in a couple of days during IFA. That being said, Samsung had also introduced two Tizen-powered smartphones thus far, and the third one was reported to arrive soon. Well, Samsung has introduced their third Tizen-powered smartphone in India, the Samsung Z2, read on.

As expected, this is an entry-level smartphone for emerging markets, while the Samsung Z9, a phone which was rumored recently, is said to be its high-end counterpart, but nothing has been made official yet. In any case, the Samsung Z2 features a 4-inch 800 x 480 TFT display, along with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of expandable internal storage. The phone is fueled by an unnamed quad-core SoC running at 1.5GHz, and a 1,500mAh battery is also included here. The 5-megapixel snapper can be found on the back of the Samsung Z2, while the phone also offers 4G LTE and Dual SIM support. Tizen OS 2.4 comes pre-installed on this smartphone, and the device also features a number of software features as part of that OS. The S Bike mode is included here, and so is the Ultra Data Saving mode. The company has also included the My Money Transfer app, which lets you easily manage your transactions, and also generate bank statements.

“Samsung Z2 makes 4G accessible and relevant to the unique needs of feature phone users and first time smartphone buyers. It brings consumers a fast and affordable mobile internet experience that will democratize 4G usage in the country,” said Manu Sharma, the Vice President of Mobile Business at Samsung India Electronics. The Samsung Z2 comes in Wine Red, Black and Gold color variants, while it costs Rs. 4,590 ($68) in India. The device will be exclusively available from Paytm online, while it will hit retail stores on August 29th. Those of you who opt to purchase the phone will also get the Jio Preview offer which will get you unlimited access to voice and data, plus Jio apps for the period of 90 days. As you can see, this smartphone is extremely affordable, and it will be interesting to see how many Indian users will purchase the device, mainly considering Android is a total leader in the Indian smartphone market.
