Smartwatches have been around for quite some time now, and some companies are aggressively pushing them to the market, but they’re still not mainstream products, not by a long shot. Smartwatches may be popular in the tech community, but most regular people are completely clueless and not (yet) interested in such products. That being said, things might change in the future as companies like Samsung, Motorola and Huawei refine and market their new smartwatch products.
Speaking of which, Samsung had introduced their Tizen-powered Gear S2 smartwatch last year, a device which arrived in two variants, namely Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic. The Gear S2 model sported a silicone band and it looked sporty more than anything else, while the classic model was somewhat different looking, metal-clad smartwatch with a leather band. That being said, the Gear S2 smartwatch was announced back in August, which essentially means it might be time for Samsung to release its successor. Some of you might be wondering whether the Gear S3 will ship in two variants again, or will Samsung opt for one variant only. Luckily for us, a trademark application surfaced and basically confirmed that the watch will ship in two variants yet again. This trademark application was filed with the South Korean intellectual property authorities a couple of days ago, so it remains to be seen when will the Gear S3 launch.
We don’t know much about the Gear S3 thus far, but SamMobile did confirm (a while back) that it will ship with a rotary bezel, just like its predecessor, which was to be expected considering that was one of the best features of the Gear S2. In addition to the rotary bezel, the Gear S3 is expected to sport an extensive array of sensors which will measure, amongst other things, altitude, and atmospheric pressure, while a speedometer will also going to be included. Now, we’re still not sure when will the watch launch, but that might happen at IFA in Berlin next month. In any case, we’ll make sure to let you know as soon as more details surface, as usual, so stay tuned.
