YU is an Indian smartphone manufacturer we’ve talked about quite a few times in the past. This company is actually owned by Micromax, and we’ve seen a couple of devices announced by YU this year. The YU Yureka Note phablet was announced back in April, and the YU Yunicorn smartphone landed in May. YU tends to refer to the Yunicorn as their flagship smartphone, and even though that might be the case, this is more of an upper mid-range handset, than a true high-end flagship.
We haven’t heard from YU in quite some time, well, until a couple of days ago. The YU Yunique Plus smartphone popped up two days ago, and this is an entry-level smartphone, fueled by the Snapdragon 410 SoC. The YU Yunique Plus also comes with a 4.7-inch HD display, 2GB of RAM and an 8-megapixel rear-facing snapper. That being said, the YU Yunique Plus is not the only smartphone that has popped up recently, the YU Yureka S also got listed on the company’s website, and thanks to that listing, we know not only its design and specs, but its price point as well. The YU Yureka S sports a somewhat more powerful spec sheet than the YU Yunique Plus. The YU Yureka S features a 5.2-inch fullHD display with Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3 protection on top of it. The phone is fueled by the Snapdragon 615 64-bit octa-core processor, and the device also packs in 3GB of RAM and 16GB of native storage. It is also worth mentioning that this is a dual-SIM smartphone, and a hybrid one at that, you can use its second SIM card slots to expand your internal storage via a microSD card. Android 5.1 Lollipop comes pre-installed on the YU Yureka S, and a 13-megapixel camera (f/2.2 aperture) is placed on its back. The 5-megapixel snapper is placed on the front side of this smartphone, and a 3,000mAh battery is also included here. The YU Yureka S is priced at Rs. 12,999 ($194) according to the company.
If you take a look at the provided image, you’ll get to see the device in the flesh. The phone sports three physical keys on the right, while there are not physical keys up front, the phone utilizes on-screen buttons instead. The protruding circle on the back houses the phone’s camera and the belonging sensors, while you’ll notice that the speaker is placed in the bottom portion of the phone’s back.
