Amazon Makes the $50 Echo Dot Official

Amazon briefly announced the new, cheaper, Echo Dot on their Twitter account yesterday before deleting it. However, today the news is official. The Echo Dot is now just $49.99, and will be released next month with pre-orders beginning today. The Echo Dot is a cheaper Bluetooth speaker that has Alexa built in. That’s Amazon’s own personal assistant, for those that may not be aware. Now since this is a much cheaper speaker than the original Amazon Echo, the sound isn’t as great as you’d get out of the Echo. But that’s alright because you can hook it up to another speaker if you wish. Something like the Bose SoundLink II (which they are selling with the Echo Dot as a package) or even the UE Megaboom if you want some big sound.

The Amazon Echo Dot is nice and small, but also somewhat elegant. Allowing you to place it on a table in your living room, or even your office and use Alexa to do all sorts of things for you. This includes things like ordering pizza from Dominos, ordering your Uber for you, controlling your music, or even the temperature in your home (which Amazon is also selling the Echo Dot with the ecobee3 smart thermostat as a package deal). Alexa has gained a ton of skills since she launched in 2014, and Amazon is continuing to add more and more.

While the Amazon Echo Dot is just $49.99 – and is now the cheapest way to get Alexa in your home or office – Amazon is also selling the Echo Dot in 6-packs or 12-packs. And with the 12-pack you actually get two free (so you are only paying for 10 of them). Many may wonder why you would want that many Echo Dots? Well they will make a great stocking stuffer for the upcoming holiday season. And that’s likely why Amazon announced the device today. The Amazon Echo Dot is available in either black or white – the Amazon Echo also got a paint coat and is now available in white as well. You can pre-order the Echo Dot today, and it’s due to ship on October 20th, 2016.
