BlackBerry’s first steps into the world of Android led to the creation of the BlackBerry PRIV, and earlier this summer various reports have explored the possibility that the Canadian smartphone maker has at least three additional Android-powered smartphones in the works. One of these handsets was officially announced in July as the BlackBerry DTEK50, and now, hardware specifications for a so-called BlackBerry DTEK60 (codename Argon) have been leaked directly through the official BlackBerry website.
The BlackBerry DTEK60’s appearance on the company’s website appears to have been an error considering the “donotpublish.html” extension, but one way or another, this bit of details slipped up and specifications for the said device were briefly published on the company’s website. As expected, the BlackBerry DTEK60 will rely on Android OS, and accordingly, it will be equipped with a 5.5-inch display boasting a resolution of 2560 x 1440 and a pixel density of 534 pixels per inch. It will draw power from a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC featuring an Adreno 530 graphics chip, along with two dual-core Kryo-based CPUs running at frequencies of up to 1.6 GHz and 2.15 GHz respectively. Furthermore, the terminal will apparently be equipped with 4GB of RAM, 32GB of on-board memory, a 21-megapixel main camera with autofocus, an 8-megapixel fixed-focus front-facing sensor, a USB Type-C connector, and a non-removable 3,000mAh Li-Ion battery. In addition, the BlackBerry DTEK60 will accommodate a fingerprint recognition sensor, and not unlike the BlackBerry DTEK50, it will reportedly be equipped with a “Convenience Key”.
Now, it’s worth mentioning that in reality, the BlackBerry DTEK50 is a rebranded Alcatel Idol 4 featuring a customizable Convenience Key, and rumors have it that the BlackBerry DTEK60 will also be a slightly redesigned version of Alcatel’s yet-to-be-announced “TCL 950” smartphone spotted in the databases of GFXBench and TENAA in May and July 2016. Sure enough, the specifications leaked by BlackBerry this week match the hardware specs detailed by GFXBench and TENAA for the TCL 950, so at the end of the day the mysterious BlackBerry DTEK60 shapes up to be a re-badged TCL 950 and a slightly larger, upgraded version of the BlackBerry DTEK50 / Alcatel Idol 4. As to when we might see the product on shelves, sadly, there was no mention of a release time-frame in the leaked data, but obviously, BlackBerry does seem to be preparing for the handset’s eventual debut.
