We’ve seen a ton of compelling smartphones released in China in the last year or so. A number of companies have been releasing really affordable, and yet compelling smartphones in China, and we’re here to talk about yet another such company (and their new smartphone), a company you’ve probably never heard about. This company’s name is Colawe, and it was founded back in 2009 in Shenzen, China. This company has just introduced a new smartphone, the Colawe W550, let’s see what this phone has to offer, shall we.
The Colawe W550 is a metal-clad smartphone which resembles Meizu’s devices quite a bit, there’s no denying that. The camera and flash on the back of the phone are similarly placed as they are on Meizu’s handsets, and the front side of the device also looks quite similar. The SIM card tray is placed on the left-hand side of the Colawe W550, while the phone’s power / lock key and volume rocker buttons can be found on the right side of the device. The physical home key is placed below the display, and the phone’s speaker grill is located on the back of this smartphone, as you can see in the images down below. This smartphone sports a 5.5-inch AMOLED 2.5D curved glass display, though the company did not say what resolution can we expect to see here. This device is fueled by a quad-core 64-bit SoC running at 1.3GHz (presumably MediaTek’s chip), while the phone also packs 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable internal storage. The 8-megapixel shooter (Sony’s IMX219 sensor) is placed on the back of the Colawe W550, while a 2-megapixel shooter can be found up front. This device does offer 4G LTE connectivity, and its home button doubles as a fingerprint scanner. The 3,000mAh battery is also a part of this package, and it is not removable, while Android 6.0 Marshmallow comes pre-installed on the Colawe W550.
That is more or less it. The Colawe W550 smartphone is yet another interesting budget addition to the smartphone market, a phone which despite its modest SoC and RAM count offers an AMOLED display, and what seems to be a solid metal build. We still don’t know how much will this smartphone cost, but it will become available for purchase from Chinese resellers soon.
