If you live in India and you own the OnePlus One, Cyanogen is making things a little bit better for you today as they’ve just announced that they’re launching Cortana in the region and they’re starting things off with OnePlus’ very first smartphone. Cyanogen notes that the Cortana Mod is going to be available for those using the OnePlus One on Cyanogen OS 13.1 first, and they also highlight all of the things that come along with it, which includes the Cortana Mod for the camera and lock screen. While Cyanogen’s Cortana Mod is just now going live for OnePlus One owners in India, the mod was actually introduced with the Cyanogen OS 12.1.1 update which was pushed out as of earlier this year on January 4th. For users that own the OnePlus One and are running the correct software, installation of the Cortana Mod will need a Wi-Fi connection which will initiate an automatic download.
If you were already aware that Cyanogen has been partnering with Microsoft for the Cortana Mod, chances are you’ll likely know about many of its features and benefits. If you’re particularly interested in the mod for the camera and lock screen, Cyanogen explains how it works and even shows it off in the video below. Essentially, you’ll swipe left on the lock screen to bring up Cortana, then you simply give the “Hey Cortana” command and ask Cortana to take a selfie, and the camera will pull up and snap a picture for you with a countdown so you can stay hands-free and make sure the selfie looks perfect.
This isn’t the only ability you can utilize from the lock screen, as you can also use Cortana from the lock screen for hands-free, voice-controlled search. If you need some quick information about relatively anything, this will be a nifty way for you to get the details you need without having to unlock your device and open up an app. Of course, Cortana does a lot more too, like turning on alarms, enabling Airplane Mode, and even enabling Quiet Mode if you want notifications turned off and calls to go straight to voicemail. Suffice it to say, the Cortana Mod will add quite a bit of functionality to the OnePlus One.
