Fitbit Charge 2 is Now Shipping from Amazon

Last month, Fitbit took the wraps off of two new activity trackers. They were rumored for quite some time, and turned out to be successors to their two most popular trackers – the Flex and Charge HR. The Fitbit Flex 2 is still up for pre-order now for just $99. However the Fitbit Charge 2 is now shipping, and it has a price of $149.99. That is the same price that its predecessor was priced at when it launched, and for the most of its life cycle. The Fitbit Charge 2 is a pretty big upgrade over the Fitbit Charge HR, even though it drops the “HR” from the name, the heart-rate monitor is still there. One of the big changes is the big new display, which makes it look a whole lot like the Fitbit Alta released earlier on in the year.

The Fitbit Charge 2 does everything you’d expect it to do. It will track your activity, your sleep, calories burned and much more. With the heart-rate sensor being included, it can also track the heart rate zone that you are in. This includes the fat burning zone, cardio and peak zones. What’s different here is that it will send you reminders to move. It’s something that debuted on the Alta, but was available for the Charge HR later down the road, although it wasn’t implemented as well (perhaps due to the hardware). It will vibrate and remind you to move about 250 steps per hour, which is the equivalent of walking about 2 minutes. What’s also new with the Fitbit Charge 2 is the fact that it has interchangeable bands. With the original Charge HR, you were stuck with whatever color you chose. However with the Fitbit Charge 2, you can can choose from different silicon, leather or even metal bands for the tracker. Of course, they are proprietary so you can’t just slap on any watch band like you can with Android Wear.

If you are looking for a new activity tracker, there are plenty of new ones launching this year. There was the Gear Fit 2 from Samsung, which is priced right at the Fitbit Charge 2, and of course the Fitbit Flex 2, for those that want something a bit cheaper and sleeker.
