Samsung has been fairly good about getting updates out to users in a timely fashion in recent years, a major pain point of their user base for years. From major Android updates to more minor stuff, Samsung buyers have found of late that the update situation is nowhere near as bad as it used to be, and in some cases leads other manufacturers. Demonstrating a fairly timely update process, Samsung and T-Mobile have officiated an update for Magenta’s versions of the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge that includes the September security patch for Android, along with a few bonus features involving Samsung’s cloud services.
While the update will bring the patch level of the phones up to September and help users to stay safe, the part that some users might be more interested in consists of tweaks and feature additions to Samsung Cloud. Namely, Samsung Cloud users will find that they’re now able to sync a few new types of content, such as pictures and videos. Backup and restore features have also been added in for a variety of content and customizations, including home screen setup and music files. Finally, the update brings a new management console for users to keep track of and manage the contents of their Samsung Cloud.
The update will come over the air, but customers who are so inclined can update manually through Samsung Smart Switch. The file size for the update is 376.24 megabytes, and customers are advised to ensure that their battery is at least halfway charged to avoid losing power during the update, which could result in issues otherwise. Those who want to grab the update over the air will find it rolling out to them gradually over the course of the next few days and touching down automatically on their device when it’s ready. It is possible to update manually, of course, by going into your settings menu, going to “About Device”, and checking if the update is ready, waiting and able to be installed. If that doesn’t do the trick, as with any other update, a quick reboot could get you going.
