Google Added A Download Manager To The Chrome Dev App

Google has added a download manager option into the Chrome Dev app on Android, and it’s already available for use if you’re on the latest version of the app. While it should be live in the Play Store for anyone who wants to access it, you’ll also be able to grab the APK file from below if you don’t see a Play Store update available. If you’re a user of Chrome then chances are that you’re already familiar with the desktop browser’s built-in download manager that allows you to see anything you’ve downloaded while surfing the web. Google has implemented that in the Android version of the app, and although this is just the Dev version for now there’s nothing to suggest that it won’t make its way over to the stable version of the Chrome app at some point.

If you’re on the latest version of Chrome Dev then you can access the download manager by tapping the overflow menu. Once you hit the download manger option it will open up a new tab that shows you all of your downloads just as it does in the desktop version of the Chrome browser. Once here, there is also a hamburger menu in the downloads section with various options that users can access such as all downloads, pages, video, audio, images, documents, and other. These are simply categories that users can tap on if they want to narrow down their search for a specific download. At the very top of the hamburger menu you can also see how much storage you’ve taken up with the downloads out of your device’s internal storage.

In addition to the download manager that’s now been added, Chrome Dev also now allows users to download web pages for viewing offline, which should come in handy for anyone who often ends up without internet during the day even if only briefly. This is what the pages category is for in the download manager, as it will list off any web pages that you have downloaded for offline viewing. Again, if you often come across times during the day or throughout the week where you have no internet and are going to be downloading web pages a lot, you might be making good use of the pages section in the download manager and the download manager in general. If you download a web page it will only download the page that you’re currently on, so if there are multiple pages you’ll want or need to look at later when you’re offline, you’ll have to download them individually.
