After launching Google Destinations in March of this year, the company has decided to expand beyond mobile-only and bring it to the desktop. As well as making it available around the world. Google Destinations is basically exactly what you think it is. It’s a tool, built into Google Search, that allows searchers to compare airfare, hotel rates and much more, for their vacation or any other travel. Making it available on desktop is a great idea, since many people are searching on desktop when they are booking flights and hotels for their vacation and such.
Google Destinations doesn’t do the booking for you. Instead, it searches the top travel service providers and will direct you to their site for booking your trip. So you are able to search Google for rates for a specific time period and then be directed to Priceline.com, Booking.com, Hotels.com and other similar websites. It’s pretty similar to the Google Flights feature that Google has had available for quite some time. Google launched Destinations as something that was mostly aimed at leisure travelers who are searching for vacation spots – not so much those that need to travel for work. The Destinations website will also recommend the most popular trips based on what you searched for. If you search for a vacation in the Caribbean, you may see results for Montego Bay, Punta Cana or even the Bahamas. By default, Google will display when flights are the cheapest, as well as ticket prices and hotel prices. Additionally, you can look up activities to do at your destination. Things like skiing, hiking, golfing and much more.
This is a great way to book your vacation – as it may not work out as well for work-related travel, as those dates aren’t typically as flexible. And you can see when it’ll be cheaper to fly to London, or Dubai or whatever city you want to spend your vacation in. It’s another tool that users can use in searching for their upcoming vacation, along with the many other tools that are already available. Google Destinations is available on the desktop beginning today.
