Google Maps is seen as one of the best mapping services out there (depending on who you ask), but Google isn’t just resting on their laurels with Google Maps. They are constantly bringing new features to the service, and today they published a blog post with some nifty voice commands that you can try while Google Maps is navigating, giving you a truly hands-free experience in the car. To get started, you’ll just say “OK Google”, as you would with commands in other apps and even on Android Wear.
One of the more popular commands might be to find gas stations. You can do this easily by saying “OK Google, find gas stations”, and it’ll automatically find gas stations nearby. This can be very useful if you’re about to run out of gas – something that no one wants to deal with really. It’s also useful for when you’re in an area that appears to be deserted. Other commands include “OK Google, what’s my ETA?” so you can figure out how much longer you have until you get to your destination. This can be pretty helpful for those that may be heading somewhere to pick someone up, as they can easily let them know that they are almost there or when they’ll be there. You can also say “OK Google, what’s my next turn”, and Google Maps will give you the answer.
There are commands that you can do outside of Google Maps as well, which include things like sending a text, calling someone, and even sending your location to someone in Hangouts. The possibilities are pretty much endless, as to what you can do with voice commands. These voice commands are already available in Google Maps, so there’s no need to update the app or wait for a server-side update to be able to use them.
