BlackBerry has already said that they had no less than three Android-powered smartphones on the way this year. They already announced one earlier this summer in the DTEK50. Now there’s another smartphone that’s appearing all over the place, although it’s still not official. And that would be the DTEK60. Specs have already surfaced of the DTEK60, which include a 5.5-inch 2560×1440 resolution display, powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 processor. Also included is 4GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, and a 3000mAh battery. There’s a 21-megapixel camera around back with a 8-megapixel front-facing sensor. The DTEK60 also comes with USB Type-C and a fingerprint sensor. Showing that it is definitely a high-end smartphone.
Coming from Evleaks, the picture you see below is what appears to be some branding of the new device. It simply shows the device in a pretty small thumbnail with the name “DTEK60” next to it. The thumbnail is really small, and making it larger distorts the image, making it tough to see what’s going on here. But it does look very similar to the DTEK50 which looked similar to Alcatel’s Idol 4. Not a huge surprise, since it does have a similar name, and that likely means that it is being built by TCL, Alcatel’s parent company. The big difference here appears to be the curved edges, which almost makes it a hybrid of the PRIV and DTEK50. Although there’s no word on whether there is a physical keyboard this time around.
Currently, there’s no word on pricing for the DTEK60, but it will likely be closer to the BlackBerry PRIV’s pricing, and not the DTEK50’s pricing. Of course, that information likely won’t be available until BlackBerry makes the DTEK60 official, which could be very soon, or within the next few months. It should be made official before the end of the year. It’s a bit interesting that the DTEK60 continues to show its face, even with the rumors of BlackBerry closing it’s hardware arm tomorrow. While neither the DTEK60 or BlackBerry’s hardware arm being closed is made official just yet, it’s likely that the DTEK60 was not made in-house.
