If you play console or PC games, companion apps have become a normal part of that experience for top titles, and MyNBA2K17 is one of those. Today it’s just gone through a recent update, or rather it has started to push out to users, which introduces the ability to scan your face into the app and sync it with the full game so you can essentially play as yourself. If you’re a hardcore NBA 2K fan, this is likely going to be a very interesting feature, and what better way to smack talk your friends (or foes?) by having your players take them all the way to the hoop while looking like you?
In addition to the face scanning feature which works for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the app also lets you make purchases of items for the console game from your mobile device so if you wanted to pick something up before you play you won’t have to wait till you get home to do so. The app is also not just a companion app as it contains various mini-games for users to engage in, such as the “Pick and Win” mini-game, or the Quick Game or Blacktop Challenge modes.
While there are multiple modes to play, all of the gameplay in these modes revolves around player cards, which users can collect from a fairly large roster, especially with the 300 new cards that were added to this version of the companion app. If you open and access the app daily you can earn virtual currency which can be used to buy up cards in the auction house among other things. Of course, you can also choose to spend money on in-app purchases if you don’t feel like putting in the time to earn the currency, but this isn’t needed. It does, however, speed up the process. On that note, if you’ve never used the auction house before it allows you to bid or buy cards of all rarity types, and you can watch auctions if you aren’t ready to place a bid. The app is free to download and install, and is likely a good install for those who are huge NBA 2K fans, or just fans of the NBA in general.
