Having been released just over a month ago, sale of the highly popular Samsung Galaxy Note 7 was halted due to numerous units all over the world exploding while being charged. This led to an investigation by the South Korean company and was followed by an official recall of all affected Galaxy Note 7 units which are in the millions, from all over the world. While Samsung has issued an official recall complete with a guide on how to replace your affected unit along with the collection dates in most markets, Australia has just received such a recall today along with the confirmed dates on when Australian customers can get their devices replaced.
According to Samsung Australia, customers who have purchased the Galaxy Note 7, and have already contacted Samsung, the retailer or the carrier they have purchased from, will begin to receive phone calls starting from 21st of September. Through the phone calls, Samsung will coordinate the return and the replacement of the Galaxy Note 7 with all users. While waiting for the replacement of your affected unit, Samsung will provide a Samsung Galaxy J1 in most cases as a courtesy device, to all affected users to make use of for the time being. Samsung also advises users to avoid using the affected Galaxy Note 7 as it may be a serious hazard to users, and the company prioritizes the safety of all its customers. While it may be one of the greatest flagships of the year, it is better to stay safe than risk an explosion which may lead to bodily injuries and damage to property.
Richard Fink who is the Vice President IT & Mobile of Samsung Electronics Australia, has mentioned that the company has been working hard to get replacement Galaxy Note 7 units for its Australian customers and they are due to be sent to retailers and carriers all around the country from September 21. While retailers and carriers may receive the replacement units starting from September 21, it is likely that affected customers will only receive their units a week or two later, depending on how fast your retailer or carrier receives their units.
