Earlier on in the year, the watch brand Nixon, announced that they were looking to launch their first Android Wear watch. Thanks to some help from Qualcomm, the Mission was born. Designed for those that like to live life outside, the Mission is an Android Wear watch designed to take a beating or two, as well as come along for the ride whether that’s snowboarding, surfing, running or mountain biking. It was announced way back in March, but now the Mission is back better than ever, with a raft of customization options, and is now available to pre-order right now.
The watch itself features a 1.39-inch fully-circular AMOLED display, which has a Snapdragon Wear 2100 underneath alongside 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage. It packs in GPS, a Barometer, a Thermometer, a Compass, an Accelerometer and even Humidity Sensors. On the software front, Nixon has partnered with Surfline as well as Snocountry to track your surfing and snowboarding routes, which are all put into the Mission app, which keeps all of this information together. On top of this, Nixon has put in watch faces of their popular Player, Sentry, Ranger and Unit watch models and users can of course also choose from the thousands in the Google Play Store. Built from 316L stainless steel, with Gorilla Glass protecting that large display, the Mission boasts an impressive 10-atm rating, making this the first Android Wear watch to survive in depths up to 100 meters.
In terms of looks, the Mission will be available in either Concrete or Black casings – which are sizeable at 48mm – but from there users can choose from 12 different bezel options, all finished in bright Cerakote paint that’s durable as it is colorful. To go with this, there are 24 different silicon band options, some of which sport multiple colors running throughout them, and the Mission can also be engraved with whatever you want – within reason – on the back of the case. This level of customization gives the Mission a possible 44,000 configurations, which is arguably much more than other Android Wear manufacturers are offering right now. At $400, the Mission isn’t cheap, but Nixon have tried their best to offer a complete solution. It’s available to pre-order right now, and will be available in stores such as Jacks Surfboards, Barneys, Reeds, Tourneau as well as the usual Google Store and of course Best Buy.
