Oculus is warning customers not to pair up and use their Gear VR headsets with the Galaxy Note 7 due to the problems with the battery. Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 officially launched towards the end of last month, and just recently Samsung had to end up issuing a global recall on the device due to battery problems that were causing the battery to explode. Naturally, Oculus is thinking about their customers and is reminding them not to insert the Galaxy Note 7 into the Gear VR headset as it may result in damage to the headset itself, and in a worst case scenario the battery could explode while the headset is being used.
Samsung’s recall was met with return and exchange programs for the device from multiple carriers as well as Samsung themselves, allowing those who have purchased the device the ability to have it swapped out for a new one. Each outlet is doing things just a little bit differently, with some carriers allowing the possibility of a full-refund, while others are simply doing exchanges either for a Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge or a new Galaxy Note 7 once the replacements are made available to customers, which was said to be soon but no exact dates have been given just yet.
Oculus is sending out emails to customers who have purchased the Gear VR alerting them to the warning so if you’ve purchased a Gear VR you should find one of these emails in your inbox. Oculus has also placed the warning the home page of their website for anyone else who may have missed the email. In addition to the warning, Oculus states that all questions regarding the Galaxy Note 7 issues should be directed to Samsung exclusively, which might sound obvious but the company is simply making things clear as they want to ensure that all Galaxy Note 7 customers get help with the device so they’re safe and can better enjoy the Gear VR if they have one. Although there is no confirmed time frame on the wait for a replacement device, it shouldn’t be too long as Samsung has taken this issue quite seriously.
