Today has seen a number of reports coming through on the Samsung Galaxy Note 7. While that has largely been the case over the last few weeks, today’s news saw the legitimization of the recall in the US. As such, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 has now been officially recalled in the US and as part of that process, Samsung confirmed that replacement units will become available no later than September 21. Which should mean that the next few days will see a number of people returning and replacing their Galaxy Note 7s for new ones.
If you are wondering how you will be able to identify whether you have a new and problem-free Galaxy Note 7 or not, Samsung had already confirmed that they would be employing a system where retail boxes would come brandishing a blue “S” on the box. This was meant to be an identifier of the newer batch Galaxy Note 7s. However, it is unlikely to be an identifier for when you are out and about with your Galaxy Note 7 and people in your vicinity are wondering whether you have a ‘good’ one or not.
On that note, if a recent report out of ZDNet is correct, then it seems there will be a more publicly visible differential between the good and bad ones. According to the details, the battery indicator (in the top right corner of the phone) on the new Galaxy Note 7s will be green. This is in stark contrast to the white battery indicator that is currently in use on the Galaxy Note 7 (shown in the image above) and most phones in general. Of course, it is unclear as to whether this will act as a good enough difference when out in public, as presumably the people around you will have to know that a good Galaxy Note 7 comes with a green battery indicator in the first place. Although, in the unique case of this smartphone, any differentials Samsung can introduce to help reassure people that it is a safe smartphone will be welcomed. Of course, it should also be made clear that this is not something which has been publicly stated by Samsung yet and is based on the latest reports coming through. Although with the new models expected to arrive with users by September 21 at the latest, it should become quite clear, quite soon, whether the newer models to sport a green battery indicator or not.
