Report: Andromeda To Launch on Huawei-Built 'Nexus' Tablet

Earlier today, there was a report out of Android Police that Google was working on a laptop to showcase Andromeda OS. It’s being called the “Pixel 3” and will be a successor to the last Chromebook Pixel. That device isn’t slated to launch until around this time next year. Now another report out of 9to5Google mentions that there is a second device that will be launching with Andromeda, and that is a “Nexus” tablet, built by Huawei. Yes, a Nexus tablet, even though these new smartphones are said to be “Pixel” branded. The report does note that is the branding that is going around right now, but it may not launch as a “Nexus” tablet.

There isn’t much known about this tablet, but it appears to be that tablet that Evleaks talked about a few weeks ago. There was also a trademark filed for “Huawei 7P” which could be the name for this tablet, that trademark was filed as far back as April of this year. The information that is known, as far as specs go, is that it’ll sport a 7-inch display and have 4GB of RAM. The report doesn’t have any information about the specs, but did mention that their sources are calling it “Nexus tablet”.

Currently, the rumor mill has been saying that Andromeda (a hybrid of Android and Chrome OS) won’t actually be launching at this October 4th event in San Francisco, but it may be previewed. Which likely means that this Huawei-built tablet won’t be part of the devices that are launching. But it could be used to showcase the new OS. With the Pixel 3 slated for a Q3 2017 launch, it’s probably pretty safe to say that is when Andromeda and this new tablet will also launch. Even though 9to5Google believes that we’ll see the new Huawei tablet well before Q3 2017.

Google already has a lot on their plate for their event next week. And now with these rumors of Andromeda and the device they might be running on, surfacing, it looks like there’s a lot more to be announced. It’s definitely going to be an exciting event next Tuesday in San Francisco.
