Samsung Pay has just updated their app, and the only big change to the app is that some Capital One cards are now supported. Previously, Capital One was not supported at all. However, now some of their cards are supported, but not all. To find out if your card(s) are supported, you’ll need to hit up the source link that is listed below. This update is a server-side update, meaning that there is no APK to download and get the new version of Samsung Pay, you’ll just have to wait for the update to push to your device. Additionally, this update is only coming to the US, right now.
The update does bring in the usual bug fixes, speed improvements and stability fixes as well. But the big feature here is Capital One support. A bank that has been a part of Apple Pay and Android Pay for quite some time. So it’s nice to see it available for Samsung Pay too now. Samsung Pay already has most banks and credit card companies on board for their mobile payment service, but if for some reason yours isn’t included, don’t worry. As Samsung is continuously working to add more and more companies to their list of compatible firms.
Samsung Pay is a little over a year old, and has done quite well for itself. Aside from the constant updates bringing new features and more support for credit and debit cards, Samsung has also made the service compatible with just about every merchant out there. When they bought LoopPay in 2015, they bought them for their MST technology. That stands for Magnetic Secure Transmission. It basically means that you can tap your Samsung smartphone on any terminal that accepts credit cards and be able to use Samsung Pay. This has given them a significant leg up over their competitors, who all rely on NFC – which means that merchants need to upgrade and/or replace their terminals to support them. Mobile payments have been a popular topic in the past few years, and it seems like every company is aiming to have their own service – including Capital One. However, Samsung Pay, Android Pay and Apple Pay are the top competitors right now.
