The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 was selling really well in the market and everything seemed to be smooth sailing for Samsung, until reports regarding exploding Galaxy Note 7 units while being charged started to emerge from all over the world. This prompted Samsung to recall all affected units, and while most users complied, some are yet to return their affected units. According to the company, the explosions have been traced back to faulty batteries in some units. It was recently reported by a user on Reddit that Samsung may have plans to remotely deactivate all Samsung Galaxy Note 7 devices which are faulty, starting from 30th of September. However, it turns out that is not what Samsung has in mind.
Technology website, Android Central, contacted Samsung regarding the remote deactivation, and according to the South Korean company, no such thing will be carried out. Instead, all official guidance on the recall process, including the decision to remotely deactivate all affected units, will be posted on the company’s website soon. Remote deactivation seems like a sure way to get all affected Galaxy Note 7 devices off the streets and may have prompted all Galaxy Note 7 owners to take part in the replacement of their units. If you are a Galaxy Note 7 user who has not contacted your local Samsung store, carrier or retailer regarding the replacement process of your unit, it is best to do so as soon as possible. Most carriers and retailers will be receiving replacement units starting from this week but it is likely that the replacement process of your unit will only take place in a week or two.
Since the recall was announced by Samsung, incidents regarding exploding Galaxy Note 7 units have been coming in still, the latest one involving a 6-year old boy who suffered burns when a Galaxy Note 7 exploded in his hands while he was watching videos on the device. Before this, a Galaxy Note 7 managed to cause damage to a hotel room, while it also burned a car in a separate incident. Hopefully, Samsung will be able to carry out the recall as fast as possible and relaunch the Galaxy Note 7.
