Europeans that aren’t willing to follow the trend of constantly increasing phone sizes have been able to purchase the new Sony Xperia X Compact for some time now thanks to the fact that most licensed brick-and-mortar stores started stocking Sony’s latest mid-range smartphone earlier this month. If you happen to be on the lookout for a more compact device but prefer to buy it from the comfort of your own home, the good news is that Sony’s official mobile stores are now selling the Xperia X Compact, as well. More specifically, the device is currently available for online purchase in the UK, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, and Sweden. You can order the regular White, Universe Black, or Mist Blue version, all of which are priced at £379.99 in the UK and around €449.99 in other countries.
For that price, you’ll get device boasting a 4.6-inch 720p display fueled by the Snapdragon 650 hexa-core CPU which consists of a quad-core 1.4 GHz Cortex-A53 cluster for high performance and a dual-core 1.8GHz Cortex-A72 cluster for minor tasks. In addition to that, Xperia X Compact features the Adreno 510 GPU, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of internal storage which can be expanded thanks to a microSD card slot that supports up to 256GB of additional space. The phone is equipped with a 2,700 mAh battery that unfortunately can’t be removed but is only 129 x 65 x 9.5 mm in size and weighs just 135 grams to make up for it.
While that hardware is respectable for the price, where Xperia X Compact really shines in its price range is the optics. Namely, the device boasts a 23-megapixel rear camera consisting of a 24mm, f/2.0 lens with phase detection autofocus, face detection, and HDR support. The camera can shoot FullHD videos at 60 frames per second and is complemented with a LED flash. The front-facing 5-megapixel lens isn’t as capable but still supports 1080p video. All in all, if camera quality is an important factor for you when purchasing a smartphone and you categorically refuse to own a phablet or you’re looking for a device under 5 inches, you can’t really go wrong with the Xperia X Compact.
