The pattern of Android releases and updates has become pretty predictable over the past few years. What started with the launch of Android 5.0, as a single letter and a Developer Preview has been the same rollout that Google has used for the past two versions of Android; Android 6.0 Marshmallow and now Android 7.0 Nougat. Something else, that Nexus owners are surely not a big fan of, appears to keep on happening as well; updates are becoming slower. At least at first anyway, as it appears as though the days of blazingly quick updates to the latest version of Android are long behind us. Instead, the OTA rollouts for the Nexus 6 and Nexus 6P only began rolling out this week, and now it looks like the update for the Nexus 6P might be in trouble.
According to an update to the Vodafone Australia support pages regarding the new update, the network down under has had to halt the rollout simply saying that “An issue is affecting rollout of this software update and we are working with Huawei to resolve ASAP. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and will keep you posted as soon as we have an update.” As there’s very little info, basically none, given about the nature of the issue itself, it’s difficult to figure out when the update might start up again, and/or whether or not other Nexus 6P devices dotted around the world might be affected, too. It seems as though there has to be something going on here, as there’s no official OTA files that have been found just yet, despite Google having announced the rollout of the OTA not too long ago. On top of this, a number of Nexus 6P users have been citing issues with Android 7.0 Nougat itself, such as performance and battery-related problems. It’s likely that Vodafone Australia doesn’t want to see these complaints and has gone direct to Huawei to ask them to put a stop to these issues.
Whatever the problem, it looks as though Nexus 6P users, and perhaps Nexus 6 users, will have to wait a little bit longer still for their update to Android 7.0 Nougat. None of this has been confirmed by Google just yet, but if there are issues with this latest build of Nougat, then new factory images are likely to be pushed out, as well as a fresh round of OTA updates, so keep your eyes peeled.
