IFA officially kicks off today and goes until the 7th of September, but all of the big announcements have already happened over the last couple of days, and boy were there some exciting reveals. Of course, there were no major flagship smartphone announcements, but there were some notable smartphones that were made official these past two days as well as more than a few wearables. Although it’s not a smartphone, likely the biggest device announcement of IFA so far was the Samsung Gear S3, which Samsung revealed on Wednesday and showcased in two different variants that include the Gear S3 Classic and the Gear S3 Frontier.
Not to be outdone by Samsung, ASUS also revealed their new smartwatch for the year with the ZenWatch 3, although they announced their device a little earlier in the morning. The ZenWatch 3 is still in more than a few ways the same elegant Android Wear smartwatch as the past two iterations, although this year it does come with a round display and a handful of improvements that make it ASUS’ best Android Wear watch so far. When it comes to smartphones, there were actually a quite a few that debuted at the event. Sony announced two new devices in the Xperia X family with the Xperia XZ and the Xperia X Compact, while Lenovo officially announced the Moto Z Play alongside a Verizon exclusive DROID Edition of the device. Having said that, the Moto Z Play will also be available in the U.S. unlocked in the near future.
Lenovo not only announced the Moto Z Play and Moto Z Play DROID Edition, but they also announced the Yoga Book and the Yoga Tab 3 Plus, both of which should interest those looking for a tablet. Other devices that made it to the event this year were Huawei’s Nova and Nova Plus. These smartphones are set firmly in the mid-range market, unfortunately there was no mention of a launch of either device in the U.S. just yet. In addition to the Nova and Nova Plus, both of which are the start of Huawei’s new Nova line of devices, Huawei also announced two new colors of the P9 that launched earlier this year, as well as the MediaPad M3. Out of the biggest devices which were over the past couple of days, which was your favorite?
