Android Auto has had a pretty successful 2016, but things are about to get even better with 2017 model vehicles hitting dealer lots in the next few weeks (some of which are already out actually). In fact, according to Cars.com there will be over 100 models hitting the road in the 2017 model year with Android Auto installed. That’s a pretty big deal and is important for anyone looking to buy a new car, as they now will have even more choices about what car they want to buy as their next car. But, here’s the bad news. Toyota is still a no-show for Android Auto and even the Open Automotive Alliance. Toyota has maintained their stance on wanting to “keep the keys out of Google’s hands”. They also feel that their infotainment system is good enough for their customers, and that Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are not needed.
The good thing is that there are plenty of other choices available though, including the Acura NSX. From Audi, we have the A3, A4, A6, A7, Allroad, Q7 and the TT. Buick is launching their first round of Android Auto vehicles with the Encore, LaCrosse and Regal. GM’s other brands, Cadillac, Chevy and GMC are continuing their pretty impressive support for Android Auto. On the Cadillac side, we’re looking at the 2017 ATS, CTS, CT6, Escalade, XTS and XT5. Chevrolet will offer it with the Bolt, Camaro, Colorado, Corvette, Cruze, Impala, Malibu, Silverado, Silverado 2500HD/3500HD, Sonic, Spark, Suburban, Tahoe, Trax and the Volt. In other words their entire lineup. Chrysler is keeping thins simple and keeping it to the 300 only. Dodge is also keeping it simple with the Challenger and Charger.
Ford’s first Android Auto vehicles launch this year with the C-Max, Edge, Escape, Expedition, Explorer, Fiesta, Flex, Focus, Fusion, F-150, F-Series SuperDuty, Mustang, Taurus, Transit and the Transit Connect. Genesis will offer the G80 with GMC offering the Acadia, Canyon, Sierra, Sierra 2500HD/3500HD, Yukon and Yukon XL. Honda has the Accord, Civic, and Ridgeline. Hyundai with the Azera, Elantra, Elantra GT, Santa Fe, Santa Fe Sport, Sonata, Tucson and the Veloster. Hyundai’s sister brand Kia will offer Android Auto in the Cadenza, Forte, Optima, Sedona, Sorento, Soul and Sportage. Lincoln has the Continental, MKC, MKT, MKX, MKZ and Navigator. Mercedes has the B-Class, CLA-Class, CLS-Class, E-Class, GLA-Class, GLE-Class, and SLC-Class. Mitsubishi with the Mirage, Mirage G4 and Outlander. Subaru is only offering Android Auto in the Impreza.
Finally we have Volkswagen with the Beetle, CC, e-Golf, Golf, Golf GTI, Golf R, Golf SportWagen, Jetta, Passat, and Tiguan. Volvo will offer it with the V90 Cross Country and then the S90 and XC90 later on in the year. That’s all of the models that will be coming with Android Auto in 2017. Definitely some great choices here.
