Huawei is preparing for the inevitable launch of the Mate 9 flagship phone which will likely take place at the beginning of November, but interestingly enough it now looks like Huawei may have yet another smartphone in the works for a market release before the end of the year. What’s more is that this mysterious new device boasts compatibility with AT&T’s standard LTE bands including band 30, suggesting that the handset should arrive in the U.S. through the aforementioned carrier.
Currently, it is unknown what moniker the smartphone will carry but the device has been identified by model number “H1611” in the database of GFXBench some months ago. Furthermore, the same device was also recently spotted at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) where compatibility with AT&T’s LTE bands has been confirmed. As far as hardware specifications are concerned, GFXBench shows that the Huawei H1611 is equipped with a 6-inch display flaunting a resolution of 1280 x 720, resulting in a pixel density of only ~244 pixels per inch, which is somewhat underwhelming by today’s standards and given the size of the screen. Furthermore, the handset will apparently rely on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 system-on-chip with four Cortex-A53 CPU cores clocked at up to 1.7 GHz per core, and four additional Cortex-A53 cores running at frequencies of up to 1.0 GHz, along with an Adreno 405 graphics chip. GFXBench also shows that the Huawei H1611 should accommodate 2GB of RAM and 16GB of on-board storage, out of which 9GB will be available to the user. Last but not least, the smartphone seems to be equipped with an 8-megapixel main camera with HDR photo, autofocus, and face detection capabilities, as well as a rather unimpressive 2-megapixel front-facing sensor. The handset was listed as running Huawei’s proprietary user interface “EMUI” based on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, but this detail could change by the time the handset hits the shelves.
Last but not least, the renders below allegedly reflect the final design of the Huawei H1611 stamped with an AT&T logo on the back panel. A 3.5-millimeter headphone jack sits at the top, while a microUSB port and speaker grille reside at the bottom. Pricing and availability details are unknown, but given that the smartphone has already been approved by the FCC there is a strong possibility that it will be launched on AT&T’s network sometime before the end of 2016.
