BlackBerry’s DTEK60 was just officially announced earlier this week, and while it hasn’t had much time to sit in the public eye, it’s already being matched up against some of this year’s other top end flagship devices. During a webcast interview that happened recently, BlackBerry’s COO Marty Beard stated that the DTEK60 goes head to head with the Google Pixel XL as well as the iPhone 7 Plus. He was quick to point out that the DTEK60 is also about $200 cheaper than both of those other options, which seeks to draw more attention to the value of the phone when you also consider the hardware specifications that are in use.
On paper, it isn’t really much of a stretch to think of the DTEK60 as a competitor to the Google Pixel XL as there are plenty of similarities in the hardware department. They both feature a 5.5-inch display, and they’re both featuring variations of the latest chipset from Qualcomm – The BlackBerry DTEK60 is powered by the Snapdragon 820 while the Pixel XL utilizes the Snapdragon 821. Both phones even offer QHD resolution for the screen meaning users are getting to stare at vibrant and crisp picture quality anytime they pick up their phones.
When it comes to the camera, it looks as if the DTEK60 comes out ahead with its 21MP sensor compared to the sensor on the Google Pixel XL which is only 12MP. This is merely a spec sheet detail though, as the Pixel phones have the highest rated camera of any smartphone to date, and it’s not likely that the DTEK60 would outperform the Pixel XL in this area. That isn’t to say that the camera on the BlackBerry DTEK60 isn’t nice as it more than likely takes a fine photo. When it comes to memory and storage, both phones match up with 4GB of RAM, but the Pixel XL maxes out at 128GB of internal storage, where the DTEK60 comes with 32GB internally, but supports expandable storage through the use of a microSD card. Overall, specs wise the BlackBerry DTEK60 and the Google Pixel XL do match up pretty well. What remains to be seen is if the BlackBerry device provides the same experience as Google’s latest.
