Facebook is the largest social media site in the world, and also one of the largest companies in the world in general. Facebook grew so much over the years, and a ton of people use the company’s official application for Android, which had been downloaded over 1 billion times thus far. Now, not many apps had been downloaded so many times from the Google Play Store, and Facebook has several of them, other than the Facebook app, both (Facebook) Messenger and WhatsApp have crossed the 1 billion mark at some point.
That being said, both Facebook and (Facebook) Messenger applications have been receiving tons of hate over the years because they’re quite heavy, mainly in terms of battery. These two apps are not exactly battery friendly, and even though they work really well on smartphones and tons of people don’t even care about how they affect their battery, some people are still quite annoyed by it. Facebook has been trying to fix that, and while we’re waiting for that to happen, the company has just introduced a new app called ‘Messenger Lite’. Now, this application has been announced as a lighter version of (Facebook) Messenger, and it will be available in emerging markets. The main goal of this app is to work on less modern smartphones, and we hope that it will be more battery friendly at the same time, considering it will have fewer services and features to run.
Facebook has announced this app today, and said that it will roll out to Kenya, Tunisia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Venezuela. The company has also mentioned that the app will expand to more countries in the coming months. “We want to make sure Messenger products are truly for everyone,” said David Marcus, head of Messenger. Now, this application will probably not going to be available in the Play Store if you live outside of the aforementioned countries, though we’re pretty sure it will work without a problem if you sideload it, no matter where you live. Facebook has said that the app will start rolling out today, so chances are we’ll be able to get our hands on the APK file sooner rather than later, stay tuned.
