Google Allo's Popularity Seems To Be Dropping, Fast

Allo is Google’s new messaging application which comes with Google Assistant integration. This application was released at the end of last month, though Google announced the app back in May during Google I/O. Now, Google Allo follows the lead of Google Duo (the company’s video chatting app) which had been released a couple of weeks before Allo. Having that in mind, Google’s Duo app has been downloaded over 10 million times thus far, while Google Allo was also off to a great start, as the app was downloaded over 5 million times in less than 2 weeks. That being said, it seems like the app is starting to lose its popularity in the Google Play Store, read on.

The Google Allo took the 8th place in Google Play’s Top Charts when it hit 5 million downloads, that was a week ago. Well, fast forward to now, and you’ll notice that the app has dropped all the way to 157th place. Now, this more or less confirms that the number of downloads has fallen abruptly, that much we can tell, though it is possible that users have started uninstalling the app as well, that’s just a guess though. Now, it’s way too early to judge Allo, but initial reactions were kind of a mixed bag. Most people think Allo doesn’t bring anything new to the table aside from the Google Assistant, which is cool and everything, but most people think that’s not enough to switch over from what they’re currently using, that seems to be the general consensus at the very least.

Now, we were expecting for Google Allo to drop to a degree, but this is quite surprising. Still, Google had released Google Allo quite recently, and the app certainly needs time before we condemn it, same goes for Google Duo actually. Google had introduced a number of new devices yesterday, and had talked more about Google Assistant, so that exposure might help Allo, though that really doesn’t have to be the case. Either way, it will be interesting to see what happens next, but things really don’t seem all that great for Google’s newest messaging application.
