Huawei is China’s largest smartphone manufacturer, that’s not exactly a secret. This company had managed to crush their competition in terms of sheer sales numbers in the first half of this year. In addition to being the number one smartphone manufacturer in China, Huawei is also quite active overseas, which makes it the third-largest smartphone manufacturer in the world. Having that in mind, Huawei had introduced a number of devices this year, and the vast majority of those smartphones feature a fingerprint scanner. This essentially means that Huawei needs to get quite a few fingerprint scanning units so that they can build those into their devices, and it seems like the company has found a way to solve all of its fingerprint scanner supply issues for the foreseeable future, read on.
According to the source, Huawei is in the process of diversifying fingerprint sensor suppliers. The report states that the company has already reached an agreement with Goodix Technology and Silead. Up to this point, Fingerprint Cards (FPC) was the sole supplier of fingerprint scanners for Huawei’s smartphones, but it seems like that won’t be the case anymore, and that’s completely understandable. The report states that the two aforementioned companies have already started fulfilling orders placed by Huawei, and are preparing for high demand from Huawei, as the company expects high shipment numbers in the fourth quarter of the year. Now, these two companies will ship fingerprint sensors for Huawei’s low-end and mid-range devices only, while FPC will make sure Huawei has enough sensors for their high-end products.
Having that mind, Goodix Technology’s sensors are in high demand, their shipments are expected to reach almost 40 million units before the end of this year, as they’re shipping such sensors to a ton of Chinese manufacturers. Aside from Huawei, Goodfix Technology ships fingerprint scanners to Meizu and LeEco, amongst others. Silead, on the other hand, is expected to reach 20 million fingerprint sensor unit shipments by the end of 2016. Keep in mind that this report is based on info provided by industry sources, nothing has been officially confirmed just yet. In any case, stay tuned for more info, we’ll report back if something pops up.
