There has been quite a few headline-grabbing smartphones that have come through this year. Samsung obviously kicked the year off with their Galaxy S7 and its Edge counterpart. Likewise, LG followed soon afterwards with their take on modularity with the LG G5. Then there was the competitively-priced OnePlus 3, the revamped HTC One line as the HTC 10, the revamped Moto X line as the Moto Z range and coincidentally, the revamped Sony Xperia Z line as the Xperia X range. Not forgetting of course, the new Nexus devices which aren’t Nexus but are Pixels and the Galaxy Note 7 – although this one stands out for very different reasons altogether.
That said, there has been few devices that have come through this year which are as unique as the Lenovo PHAB2 Pro. This is a device unlike any other as it is one which looks to blur the lines with reality, due to its emphasis on augmented reality (AR). Not only is this a Tango-enabled smartphone, but it is the world’s first Tango-enabled smartphone. However, since its launch back at the Lenovo Tech World in June of this year, the PHAB 2 Pro has yet to become available in the US. Although, that is now changing as earlier in October it became clear that the PHAB2 Pro was due to become available sometime in November. Speaking of which, now we have what seems to be firm details on the exact launch date. It seems the Lenovo website has now updated the standard Lenovo PHAB2 page listing and is now confirming that the PHAB 2 Pro will be available starting next week on November 1. While the page listing does not confirm the price of the PHAB2 Pro, it is largely expected to become available in and around the $499 marker.
In terms of the rest of normal specs and numbers, the Lenovo PHAB2 Pro is a large device as it comes with a 6.4-inch QHD display to further accommodate the AR experience. Inside, the PHAB2 Pro comes packing 4GB RAM, 64GB internal storage and is powered by the Tango-supported Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 processor. Cameras come in the form of a 16-megapixel rear camera, which among other things includes a depth sensor to aid the Tango experience, while the front-facing camera is an 8-megapixel offering. Additional features worth mentioning include Android 6.0 (Marshmallow), dual-SIM support and a fast charge supported 4,050 mAh battery.
