While VR is not generally thought of as a social experience, that doesn’t mean that it can’t be. With much of the VR content that’s out there in the world currently, those who interact with it tend to be limited to doing things solo. A new app that has just launched today called myVR aims to change that as they’re hailing their new offering, which is currently out right now in beta status on the Play Store, as a new and exciting social platform which enables people to take VR to a whole different level to experience the immersiveness like they never have before.
With the app, users can create virtual rooms that are designed with things they personally have an interest in. Rooms are fairly customizable and users can throw just about anything into them from furniture to wall decorations, and along with customizing their virtual rooms, users can also choose what content goes up on display inside of these rooms. This includes content from YouTube as well as Netflix and streaming music services. You can even have news articles on display, and when setting up the room you can also choose the background location.
If the app doesn’t have an article that you want to show off then you can add custom sources so you always have the ability to stay up to date on the latest details of topics you like. When it comes to the types of content as opposed to where the content comes from, myVR has things broken up into various categories that span across travel, DIY, Food, and Sports among others. It should be noted that in its current state, the app offers up pre-set rooms only, of which there are five, but eventually an update will be introduced which will allow users to design rooms fully, while also opening up the capability to add real-life items to their virtual spaces. Once users have contacts in the app, they can visit each other’s rooms and enjoy content together whether it’s watching videos or browsing the web. As this is a VR app, it will be compatible with headsets like Google Cardboard, and the app is available to download now if you’re interested.
