One of the more popular products in the smart home category, appears to be security cameras. While some use these to keep an eye on their kids (especially the really young ones), others use it to keep their home safe. Some have mounted security cameras from Logitech, Netgear and even Nest, outside to keep thieves away and perhaps to see when FedEx or UPS actually deliver a package. The Netgear Arlo has been a pretty popular security camera, but now they have announced a new version in the Arlo Pro.
The Netgear Arlo Pro is priced at $189, and has a few key upgrades over the original Arlo. One of which being the fact that it is now weatherproof. Meaning that it can stay outside in the rain, snow, sleet, or whatever weather mother nature throws at it. It also has a wider-angle lens. The lens is a 130-degree lens, so it can capture mostly everything. When it comes to using it night, that still works too. Netgear says that it has night vision as well as an infrared motion sensor, so it can detect when there are people nearby or at least motion nearby. A great way to keep intruders away. But there’s another feature that helps with that. Which is a smart siren. This is here to scare away would be thieves, making the Arlo Pro pretty impressive.
Now, as with most other smart cameras, you are able to keep up with what’s going on from your smartphone. So you can easily pull out your phone and fire up the app and see what’s happening. Even if you aren’t home, or even out of the country. Netgear does allow you to store monitoring footage locally, by attaching a USB drive to the Arlo Pro. This is great because you can go back and see what happened. For instance, if someone broke into your home, you have video footage of who it was, and when and so forth.
