Google announced a plethora of new products at its San Francisco hardware event which was just wrapped up yesterday. Of course, the spotlight was on Google Pixel and Google Pixel XL, two of the company’s new flagships which are practically successors to the Nexus product line of old but Google isn’t marketing them as such. Namely, while Nexus products were famous for boasting pure Android experience which was one of their main selling points, the tech giant’s marketing responsible for Pixel phones has now decided to take Android as a given and has focused on new features that Google – and not Android – brings to the table.
Speaking in Toronto after watching the stream of Google’s latest keynote, the company’s public affairs head Aaron Brindle explained that possibly the most important lesson to learn from Google’s last set of announcements has to do with its overall philosophy. “Google is taking hardware very seriously,” says Brindle, adding that Android proved to be an incredibly innovative ecosystem. However, Google is now ready to take the next step in its smartphone evolution process and that entails focusing on its other emerging technologies. When asked specifically about Pixel, Brindle asserted that the company’s latest phone “is not about bringing the best of Android to our users — it’s about bringing the best of Google to our users.”
As explained by the firm’s public affairs head, there is no universal Android phone that suits everyone. Despite the fact that Google is definitely impressed with what original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) like Samsung, HTC, Sony, and LG are doing with Android, the tech giant’s executives believed there’s more room on the market to innovate and that’s exactly what the newly announced Pixel devices represent – innovation; something completely new. Something people didn’t even know they wanted until they saw it. Of course, Google Assistant is meant to play an important role in that evolution process seeing how it’s at the center of both the Pixel and Pixel XL. Brindle asserted that neither of these devices would have ever seen the light of day if it weren’t for recent advancements in the AI field. Recent as in past-several-months recent. Both Pixel phones are not just packed with the latest and greatest deep learning and general artificial intelligence tech that Google managed to come up with, they’re also meant to keep evolving and stay relevant. That’s what Pixel represents and what makes a lot of people incredibly excited to see it in action.
