Qualcomm is one of the largest mobile SoC manufacturers in the world. The company’s Snapdragon processors are widely popular, and tons of manufacturers use them to fuel their devices. The Snapdragon 810 was Qualcomm’s flagship SoC for 2015, and as you all know, that wasn’t exactly the most successful processor this company had introduced, as earlier variants had issues with getting too hot, and even though Qualcomm fixed that issue (at least to an extent), the damage was already done. The company did, however, decide to clean their name by releasing the Snapdragon 820, which is their flagship SoC for 2016, and it’s quite a powerful chip which fuels quite a few flagship smartphones these days, including the Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge, HTC 10, LG G5, LG V20, Xiaomi Mi 5, etc. Qualcomm did release the Snapdragon 821 SoC as well, which is essentially the Snapdragon 820 with a higher clock speed.
That being said, the company is expected to introduce the Snapdragon 830 in the coming months, their all-new flagship processor for 2017. According to the latest report, this will processor will be made using a 10nm manufacturing process, and Samsung could actually manufacture these chips for Qualcomm. Now, it seems like the Snapdragon 830 paid a visit to Zauba, India’s import / export website. Qualcomm’s MSM8998 SoC (aka Snapdragon 830) surfaced on Zauba, as it was shipped to India from the US. This SoC was installed inside a prototype smartphone with 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The value of each of these prototype units shipped into India is $1,541, though that doesn’t really reveal anything, so don’t even pay attention to this price point. That’s pretty much all the info Zauba shared until now, but it seems like Qualcomm is actively testing the company’s upcoming flagship processor.
The Snapdragon 830 will be a direct competitor to Samsung’s Exynos 8895 SoC which is rumored to be announced in the coming months as well, as it will probably fuel Samsung’s Galaxy S8 smartphone(s). This fact actually makes a recent report quite weird, Samsung is said to manufacture the Snapdragon 830 despite the fact that’s their main competitor, that’s quite interesting. In any case, the Snapdragon 830 is expected to feature the Kyro 200 architecture, and the Adreno 540 GPU will probably be included here as well.
