Over the past several months various clues have emerged to suggest that Samsung is working on a new Galaxy A series for the year 2017. The upcoming Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) has already enjoyed a few moments in the spotlight as an image reportedly showing its metallic chassis emerged in September, and the smartphone has also been certified by the Wi-Fi Alliance earlier this month, indicating that Samsung is one step closer to the handset’s market debut. Even more recently, the teams at Android Authority and @OnLeaks have acquired a series of CAD renders apparently depicting the overall design of the Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017), complete with a metal frame and a back panel covered in glass.
According to aforementioned sources, the images above and below – along with the short video showcasing the CAD render in 360-degrees – represent a clear view on the new design language Samsung has adopted for the upcoming Galaxy A5 model. Based on this information, the Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) – model number SM-A520F – will feature a metal chassis and frame, a glass back panel with rounded edges, and a 5.2-inch display covered in 2.5D glass. Overall, the smartphone’s design seems to have been greatly inspired by the Samsung Galaxy S7, which is unsurprising given the fact that the previous Galaxy A5 model was also partly inspired by the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy Note 5. The upcoming model will reportedly measure 145 x 71 x 7.8 millimeters, meaning that it will have roughly the same footprint as its predecessor. Furthermore, the renders indicate that the Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) will switch to a USB Type-C connector, and oddly enough it appears that the handset could feature a side-mounted speaker on the right side edge.
As far as other hardware specifications are concerned, previous leaks and rumors targeting the Samsung Galaxy A5 (2016) indicate that it will be powered by an Exynos 7880 System-on-Chip featuring four ARM Cortex-A72 cores clocked at frequencies of up to 1.87 GHz and four Cortex-A53 cores operating at 1.3 GHz, an ARM Mali-T860 MP4 (4-core) GPU, 3 GB of RAM, a 13-megapixel main camera and a 3,000 mAh battery to keep everything up and running. The smartphone’s launch date is unknown, but considering the fact that the 2016 model was unveiled and released in December 2015, the Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) is likely to make an official appearance sometime by the end of this year, possibly in December.
