It’s been two months since Samsung launched the Samsung Gear 360 camera in the United states. This impressive piece of consumer electronics became available simultaneously with the Gear VR headset and Galaxy Note 7 but has thankfully proved to be much more reliable than the latter. Today, the South Korean tech giant announced that it’s expanding the US availability of its latest camera which has so far only been sold in Samsung physical and online stores. More specifically, most major US carriers are now retailing Samsung Gear 360 for $349.99. This price tag is identical to the one offered by Samsung and pretty much amounts to what the device costs in the company’s home country of South Korea.
New Samsung Gear 360 physical retailers now include the largest US carrier Verizon Wireless as well as AT&T, Best Buy, Sprint, and U.S. Cellular. Of course, this is just an announcement of expanded availability so you can still purchase your Gear 360 online. Like its name suggests, Gear 360 is a 360-degree camera capable of shooting high-resolution video. It supports 30 FPS video recordings in a resolution of up to 3840×1920 pixels and can also shoot 30-megapixel spherical stills. Everything that you capture with Samsung’s newest camera can easily be edited and shared with latest Galaxy phones, including Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge. Naturally, recorded content is also fully compatible with Samsung Gear VR headset.
In addition to that, Samsung Gear 360 has been specifically designed for less-than-ideal weather conditions as it boasts IP53 certification which means it’s resistant to dust and water sprayed at any angle of up to 60 degrees from a perfectly vertical position. This obviously isn’t the cheapest camera ever made but it’s still priced relatively reasonably for a 360-degree shooter. It’s also incredibly portable given its small frame and the fact that it weighs only 115 grams. The tripod seen in the above picture can be completely folded so that it serves as a handle and the camera itself is equipped with numerous microphones so it’s perfectly capable of directional audio recording. All in all, if you’re an outdoorsy person who loves to record their adventures or are just on the lookout for a versatile camera, Samsung Gear 360 is definitely worth considering.
