Google’s Pixel and Pixel XL launched with a handful of beneficial attributes that other devices don’t have, and some that they do have but have just never been part of stock Android. One of those features is the Night Light, a functionality which can be found on more than a few devices that have manufacturer software UIs. The reason for using the night light feature is so that the display doesn’t put out as much blue light, which can make it more difficult to fall asleep. If you’re the type of person who commonly uses their smartphone later at night and generally before bed, then you may have been rather pleased to see the night light capability on the Pixel phones if you purchased one. Getting to it isn’t difficult either, of course it can still be easy to miss if you aren’t necessarily looking for it. Here’s how to enable it.
First, you’ll need to navigate to the settings menu of your device, which can be done either from the app drawer or from dragging down the notification shade and tapping the settings icon from there. Once in settings, search for and tap on the display sub menu, and here night light will be right towards the top, where you can tap it and toggle it on as well as set it up to turn on and off automatically based on sunset and sunrise, as well as through a custom schedule.
The custom schedule is not too in depth, and simply has you pick a start and end time. There is no setting up custom days, for example if you only wanted it turning on during the week, so this means that it will start and end at the same time every single day. If you’re ok with that, then when turned on the night light will place a red tint on the screen to filter out the blue light emission. If you feel like you’ll be using this feature often, then you can make it much simpler to get to and quicker as well, as they have a night light quick toggle that you can tap from the notification shade. Even if you don’t use the phone very often when you’re about to go to sleep, it’s still a good idea to turn on the filter and see if it helps make getting to sleep a little easier. If you’re having trouble with it in the first place.
