Sharp Unveils Corner R, Their New Bezel-Less Concept Handset

Sharp is a Japan-based company that most of you have probably heard of by now. This company has been around for a long, long time, and they have been releasing various products, ranging from TVs and smartphones to smartphone displays. The company’s IGZO mobile panels are considered to be amongst the best in the industry, and Sharp had managed to intrigue the public by releasing some interesting ‘bezel-less’ smartphones in the past, devices that sport really interesting and innovative designs, like the Sharp Aquos Crystal and Sharp Aquos Xx.

That being said, Sharp’s devices were very limited in terms of availability outside of Japan, which is a shame, initial reactions to some of the company’s smartphones were more than positive. Having that in mind, Sharp was actually purchased by Foxconn for $6.2 back in February, and it seems like the company is working on a new smartphone, a very sleek-looking smartphone. If you take a look at the gallery down below, you’ll get to see a concept of this phone which Sharp has just unveiled. This handset is called the Sharp Corner R, and as you can see it sport a bezel-less design, well, sort of, it has bezels on the bottom where its capacitive keys are, but that’s pretty much it. Now, on the front of this phone you’ll notice the company’s IGZO display (which comes with slightly curved sides) which, a 5.2-inch panel with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 (425 ppi), and the phone’s screen-to-body ratio is 90%, which is just crazy.

This concept smartphone was introduced at the CEATECH 2016 technology expo in Sharp’s homeland, Japan. Sharp did not share this device’s full spec sheet, nor did the company say when will the phone going to be available for sale. We do hope that Sharp will push this phone out to the market as soon as possible though, as we do need as many uniquely-designed smartphones as we can get, smartphone designs are becoming quite stale, and something like this would definitely shake things up, especially if the company makes it available outside of Japan. In any case, stay tuned, we’ll report back as soon as the company releases more info.
