IFTTT or, If This Then That, is a staple in the smart home market as you can use it to set up automated tasks and commands called recipes. Today, IFTTT has expanded its support for different technologies and products by pushing out support for Google Assistant to be used with the Pixel phones as well as Google Home. Although the Google Home speakers haven’t started shipping out to buyers yet, the Google Pixel and Pixel XL have already launched and are already in the hands of quite a few consumers who pre-ordered either phone. With that said those who are interested in doing so can already set up some new Google Assistant recipes if they wanted to do so.
Not only are the recipes already live, but there are actually loads of them to begin with, and more than a few of them are recipes for really popular apps, such as the recipe to send a note in Slack with just your voice, or the recipe to send a command to the Philips Hue lights to turn off. There are also recipes for Skype, Evernote, Todoist, and quite a few more, so already there is a wealth of different actions that will work, with many more likely to be added in the future.
With all of the recipes that are already available which also include options like starting the vacuum, adding a new Google contact, adding reminders to Google Calendar, and posting to Facebook or Twitter, it wouldn’t be shocking to see people using these recipes often right from the start. The versatility that is present from the beginning also paints a positive picture for how future IFTTT support may go, and may be a good indicator that users of both IFTTT and Google Assistant can probably expect a very large list of recipes at some point. If you have a Google Home unit on the way or you already have your Pixel phone in your possession, you can comb through the full list of IFTTT recipes over on the Google Assistant Channel, and each recipe when clicked will tell you what voice commands need to be issued for the recipe action to be completed.
