Xiaomi is no stranger to releasing devices, this China-based company had introduced quite a few smartphones since the beginning of this year. The company had announced a number of Redmi-branded smartphones, in addition to the Xiaomi Mi 5, Mi 5s, Mi 5 Plus, Mi 4s and Mi Max. That being said, the Mi Max is the company’s gigantic phablet which sports a 6.44-inch display. This phone was announced back in May, and the company has now decided to unveil yet another variant of this device, a more powerful variant, read on.
Interestingly enough, Xiaomi has announced this smartphone during the three-day Diwali sale in India, and the phablet is called the Xiaomi Mi Max Prime. This variant is identical in most aspects to the original, the two devices share the same design and most internals, but the ‘Prime’ model comes with a more powerful SoC, more RAM and more storage. This phone is made out of metal, and sports three capacitive buttons below the display. The Xiaomi Mi Max Prime features a 6.44-inch fullHD (1920 x 1080) display, along with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. For comparison’s sake, the original Mi Max comes with 3GB of RAM and either 32GB or 64GB of native storage. This phone (if we can call it that) packs in a 4,850mAh battery non-removable battery, while there’s a 16-megapixel snapper on its back. The 5-megapixel camera is placed on the front side of this phone, and the device is fueled by the Snapdragon 652 64-bit octa-core processor, which is a more powerful SoC than the Snapdragon 650 which is included in the original Mi Max handset. Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow comes pre-installed on the Xiaomi Mi Max Prime, while you’ll find the company’s MIUI 8 OS on top of it. It is also worth mentioning that the Mi Max Prime comes sporting a rear-facing fingerprint scanner.
This smartphone is currently available for purchase in India, you can get it for Rs. 19,999 ($300), while the original costs Rs. 14,999 ($225). We still don’t know if the company plans to offer this handset in China as well, or will it remain exclusive to India, stay tuned though.
