YouTube Comment Replies Now Fill Parent Names Automatically

If you’ve been using the YouTube app on Android over the last couple of days and you’ve left comments on any video, you may have noticed a change. Comment replies are now automatically adding the name of the parent commenter. Google seems to have updated the YouTube application with this small tweak over the weekend, bringing the app to version 11.39, and introducing the usual bug fixes and improvements that should help to make the app run just a little bit smoother than before. If you’re unsure who the parent commenter is, it’s simply the user that your comment reply is directed towards, and not the original poster or the very first comment.

Surprisingly, beyond the auto-filling of parent commenter names on comment replies, the app doesn’t appear to contain anything in terms of changes or added functionality. This means that the features which were talked about last week and are going to arrive in a future update at some point, which are the global resolution settings and a double-tap to seek functionality, are not part of this update to the app. With that being the case, it’s likely that those will be meant for a bigger version jump, as this update merely went from v11.38 to v11.39.

While this is an update to the app that users will have to install and not something which Google just enables on their end, the update is seemingly a rather small one so it shouldn’t take long to reach all users. That said, it’s still possible that the update may not show up for everyone today, and if auto-fills of names on comment replies is something you want access to you can download this version of the YouTube app from either of the buttons below. Other recent updates to YouTube include the new Community Tab which was added in the middle of last month, allowing users to be more social with each other, although it is worth noting that this does seem to still be in a beta status and has now rolled out to everyone just yet, and there is no word on when YouTube will make it a full rollout.
