Where smartwatches are concerned, there’s all manner of different brands, and to much people’s displeasure, a number of different operating systems, too. Considering that a lot of people use a smartwatch to help track their activity throughout the day, perhaps with more accuracy, it’s no surprise that there are a number of fitness-focused smartwatches. There’s the Moto 360 Sport, the Fitbit Blaze, and now from China is the Huami Amazfit PACE. A Ceramic smartwatch that offers users a little of everything, the PACE is most definitely a smartwatch designed for fitness, more than it is anything else. It doesn’t run Android Wear or even Samsung’s Tizen OS from the Gear S line of devices, and instead runs something a little more basic than all of that.
The PACE features built-in GPS as well as an optical heart rate sensor and the ability to track off-road running as well as standard runs on a map just like anything else. The whole package is IP67 certified, making this something you can get wet without an issue, and the silicon strap won’t care a bit, either. The casing itself is ceramic, and looks very nice in the flesh, all the while looking modern and sporty. This is something that will appeal to a lot of users, but the fact that the PACE only needs one charge to last 11 or more days is perhaps the biggest selling point, all the whiole sporting an always-on display, too. This is presumably due to the fact that the PACE is like the Amazfit Arc in that it’s more basic and restrained than most other options. Despite being marketed as a smartwatch, the PACE doesn’t have much in the way of features you’d find on something like an Android Wear watch.
Right now, the PACE will be $129 in either the red or black option from the Amazfit website, up until Cyber Monday, where it will go back up to the MSRP of $159, both of which are affordable price points for something like this . There’s a gallery of images below, and it completes the line up of Amazfit wearables quite nicely, with the Moonbeam, Equator and Arc all available in the US, too.
