Nextbit has started pushing Android 7.0 Nougat to its closed beta program members, updating Robin devices which signed up to be a tester following Nextbit’s initial announcement about the program earlier this year. There is no mention of whether or not this update is going out to all of the people who were accepted for the closed beta program, but chances are that there are a fair amount of users who have received the update alert. For those that have received it, the software download comes in at a hefty 1GB+ in file size, which shouldn’t pose any issues in regards to internal device storage for most people given Nextbit’s way of handling storage between the device and the cloud, but 1GB is quite a bit to download over a cellular network, so users will probably want to make sure that they’re connected to Wi-Fi before starting the download.
That said, users preparing to start the update should keep in mind that since this is software delivered through the beta program there are likely to be some bugs or unstable parts of the software, as this is not an official stable release of Android 7.0 Nougat to the Robin. It does come straight from Nextbit, though, and will allow Robin owners to get an early taste of what Nougat will be like on their devices, while also allowing Nextbit to test out the software and find out where they might need to do some fine tuning.
If you’re not a fan of software that may have a bug or two and you want a completely stable experience, then you may want to hold off installing the update even if you did sign up for the beta program. Those who don’t care so much about the complete software stability but do prefer a little more of a customized experience, shouldn’t forget that Paranoid Android is now available for the Robin to install, although it is still Marshmallow software. As for what comes along with the beta Nougat update, users can probably expect to see some features or adjustments that are specific to the Robin, as well as features that hit all Nougat devices, like the improved Doze Mode.
