Well, Warner Bros. is aware of the fact that there are tons of fans of DC’s universe out there, which is why the entertainment company came up with a new aptly themed Android game titled DC Legends. From a design perspective, DC Legends plays like Electronic Arts’ Heroes of Dragon Age and Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes. In other words, it’s a collectible role-playing game (RPG) that’s rather light on lore and is instead based on “what if?” scenarios. For example, what if Batman teamed up with Doomsday and Harley Quinn in order to fight Superman, Joker, and Wonder Woman? If we disregard faction-based missions, there are no genuine heroes and villains in this game, just a pool of potential companions who decided to put their ideological differences aside and just want to throw some punches.
If that sounds like your cup of tea, DC Legends has plenty of entertainment to offer you. Unlike most other representatives of this increasingly popular genre, the game even boasts a story-driven single-player campaign which takes you across some well-known locations such as Metropolis, Thanagar, and Themyscira. Of course, the key selling point of DC Legends is the asynchronous multiplayer which lets you build a team of unlikely companions and beat up another team of someone else’s unlikely companions. Do that enough times, and you’ll climb one of 14 featured League Ladders, all of which offer unique rewards which will help you to build an even stronger team. It’s a relatively straightforward concept, but one that has been proved to work time and time again, especially when you pair it with a universally popular IP like the DC Universe.
Not surprisingly, DC Legends is a free-to-play mobile game with optional in-app purchases. The microtransactions allow you to speed up your progress and build a stronger team more quickly, though all of the in-game content is also unlockable without paying anything. DC Legends became available on Google Play Store last week, and initial reception has been overwhelmingly positive. In fact, the mobile game currently boasts an impressive 4.6-star rating after being reviewed over 16,000 times. So, if you’re a DC fan who’s in the mood for a casual role-playing experience which rewards dedication, DC Legends is definitely worth giving a go.
